Bill 95 FAQ

Q: What does Bill 95 The Model Community School Protection Act do?
A: This ensures DOE continues the operation of FQ Sanchez Elementary School.
Q: Why?
A: DOE has considered closing down FQ Sanchez twice due to its low student population.
Q: Why should FQ Sanchez remain open?
A: Families of Umatac love their village school and it is for the benefit of the children that the school should remain open.
Q: Is it more cost-effective to close the school?
A: No, GovGuam spends too little on education. We need to invest more into the education system. The amount we would be saving if the school was to close is such an insignificant number. It would only disrupt our children’s learning.

What The People Think On Bill 95

I don\'t really know what the status is on this current bill, as I obviously just received this email. As I listen to the testimonies in support of the bill, I am recalling the numerous days I would sit with my late mother at her desk, hours after school was out, just preparing for her next class day. I may have not attended F.Q. Sanchez elementary throughout my childhood years but it will always remain in my heart as a treasured memory of my mother. I have been away from home since 2002 (currently residing in Hawaii), but I will always provide the support needed when it comes to my culture, because that is exactly what it is all about, \"helping.\" It is unfortunate that there is a great possibility of in years to come that we will not be seeing the kids playing at the playground. But in the interim, I strongly feel that this would be the worst impact for the village of Umatac, to take away the purpose of one of its historical sites. The public hearing on this website, may have had only a hand full of testimonies before government officials, but FQ Sanchez Elementary School will have all its support from every person it had a role in their lives. The school plays 2 significant roles for its village. First and foremost, it\'s ongoing education for the children in Umatac. Secondly, its a Chamorro Historical Landmark for all of Guam.
